OpenSC enables businesses and consumers to verify claims about whether a product was sustainably and ethically produced. We can help strengthen voluntary certification standards with the latest technology. OpenSC can also automate verification for individual products in real time by using data science and machine learning to analyse digital information such as satellite imagery, live video monitoring and worker biometric data. See examples of the types of claims that you can verify using OpenSC below.
The established way to verify claims about responsible production has been through voluntary certification standards. Businesses who have invested in becoming certified and certification bodies can use OpenSC to strengthen these efforts with the latest technology. OpenSC enables product certification to be shared with consumers across a range of digital channels to maximise visibility and interactive engagement. We can trace certified products throughout supply chains to ensure authenticity and trust. We can also use data science and machine learning to audit against certification standards in real time.LEARN MORE →
Many of the products we buy involve slave labour or undocumented workers. Technology can be used to verify whether a product was produced by registered legal workers by cross-analysing existing data from staff management systems with live video monitoring using visual recognition software. Further improvements can be made by implementing biometric digital IDs for employees including fingerprint scans, facial and voice recognition and worker voice tools such as mobile surveys and reporting channels.
Too much of the world's seafood is caught illegally in protected zones or by unregistered vessels. This is difficult to monitor because while vessels are not allowed to fish in protected zones, they are often allowed to travel through them. OpenSC can verify whether a vessel was fishing in protected areas by using machine learning to analyse vessel GPS locations, coordinates of protected zones, vessel speed, sea depth and weather data (all of which can impact whether it is possible for a vessel to fish). See Austral case study for detailed example.LEARN MORE →
Huge areas of natural forest are cleared every year for beef farming. Technology can be used to verify that a product was farmed on deforestation-free land by analysing satellite imagery over time to determine whether an area was cleared in recent years. This can be overlaid with farm boundary coordinates and a unique ID tracing the product back to a particular property to verify that it was produced without deforestation.
There are many other claims and types of information that can be verified on the OpenSC platform. Please contact us if you have another idea in mind or have questions about what OpenSC can do for your business and products.
OpenSC enables businesses and consumers to trace products throughout supply chains from origin to point of purchase.
OpenSC works with businesses to implement technology and processes which capture unique product-level data throughout supply chains using IoT. Sensors can be used to track a product's location, temperature, exposure to light, chain of custody and other attributes. Our guiding philosophy is to make technology invisible to the people using it in order to automate and accelerate operations rather than disrupt workflow with additional steps.
OpenSC stores traceability data in a secure and trustworthy way on our decentralised platform. Different players along the supply chain can collaborate by contributing data about the product at each stage to form an end-to-end view. All data is secure and tamper-proof, with businesses always remaining in control of commercially sensitive information.
